David Engle

David Engle is a lifelong entrepreneur driven by a “people-first” philosophy and a passion for building businesses that deliver both profit and positive impact.

His most notable venture was founding and bootstrapping Upright Labs, which he scaled into a leading e-commerce operating platform for the second-hand retail industry. Serving over 4,000 stores, including major organizations like Goodwill and The Salvation Army, the platform’s software acted as the operating system for millions of unique products, powering over $100 million in annual transactions.

Upright Labs also included a successful service division that consulted with 50+ clients to streamline operations. Under David’s leadership, the company helped partners achieve significant results, including 40% YoY revenue growth, the design of over 3 million sq ft of warehouse space, the support to create 2,000 new jobs, and the diversion of 100 million pounds of waste from landfills annually. After scaling the business to 7 figures in yearly profit, the company successfully exited to Private Equity.

David now dedicates his time to both the Do Good Group (DoGoodGroup.org) and Trailmix Labs.

Through the Do Good Group, he actively invests, builds, and buys businesses with a bold mission: to create 1,000 jobs in Maine and donate a majority of the profits back to the local community.

Concurrently, as the founder of Trailmix Labs (TrailmixLabs.com), David and his team partners with clients to build production-grade AI and workflow applications that transform business processes and deliver measurable ROI. Trailmix Labs advises businesses on implementing automated workflows to streamline back-office operations and has a track record of success, including developing AI-powered solutions for complex genetic analysis and speeding up claims adjudication by 25%, saving clients thousands of labor hours annually.

David’s commitment to community service began early; at age 14, he founded a non-profit that brought free carnivals to over 4,000 underprivileged and critically ill children. David currently is a Board member at University of New England (UNE) and Startup Maine. He lives in Portland, Maine, with his wife, Tali, who is an organic farmer.
