Beyond the Bottom Line: Calculating Social Return on Investment
Many socially and environmentally progressive companies struggle with measuring the impact of their activities, outside of their balance sheet. The social return on investment (SROI) is one way to communicate the value of important – but not traditionally profitable – work to stakeholders, clients, and potential funders. In this workshop, participants will learn about and engage with the concept of the social return on investment (SROI). Participants in this workshop will engage with the concept of the social return on investment, learn how a SROI calculation is done, and brainstorm about how to apply an SROI in their own work. Participants will leave with a blank impact map form (a form used to link inputs, outputs, and outcomes of a program or policy), as well as a checklist for performing an SROI.
